Comfort, Oh Comfort (troost, oh troost)

Het artikel van zangeres Caroline Cobb "2020 Has Felt Like Advent All Year" bracht me bij deze song van haar, passend voor nu.

Comfort, Oh Comfort

From Isaiah 35; 43:18-21; 51:3, 11; 53:3; 58:11
CCLI # 7159408

Verse 1:
Comfort, oh comfort
To every place that is scorched and dry
Comfort, speak comfort
To every darkness in need of the light

Chorus:
In the wilderness, the green of Eden
In the wasteland, the garden blooms
Up from the desert, springs a river
For He is making everything new
Oh oh

Verse 2:
Comfort, oh comfort
There is a highway through this dry land
They will call him a Man of Sorrows
And like a seed, buried deep to rise again

Chorus

Verse 3:
Comfort, oh comfort
For the ransomed will return with a song
And with joy, we’ll come into Zion
And all our sorrow, all our sighing will be gone

Chorus

Is He worthy - Andrew Peterson

Een gepaste song voor Pasen... 'Is He worthy' uit 'Resurrection Letters, Vol. I' van Andrew Peterson.

[Verse 1]
Do you feel the world is broken? (We do)
Do you feel the shadows deepen? (We do)
But do you know that all the dark won't stop the light from getting through? (We do)
Do you wish that you could see it all made new? (We do)

[Verse 2]
Is all creation groaning? (It is)
Is a new creation coming? (It is)
Is the glory of the Lord to be the light within our midst? (It is)
Is it good that we remind ourselves of this? (It is)

[Pre-Chorus 1]
Is anyone worthy? Is anyone whole?
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?
The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave
He is David's root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave

[Chorus 1]
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
Of all blessing and honor and glory
Is He worthy of this?
He is

[Verse 3]
Does the Father truly love us? (He does)
Does the Spirit move among us? (He does)
And does Jesus, our Messiah hold forever those He loves? (He does)
Does our God intend to dwell again with us? (He does)

[Pre-Chorus 2]
Is anyone worthy? Is anyone whole?
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?
The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave
He is David's root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave
From every people and tribe
Every nation and tongue
He has made us a kingdom and priests to God
To reign with the Son

[Chorus 2]
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
Of all blessing and honor and glory
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
Is He worthy of this?
He is!
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
He is!
He is!

Kerstsong: He who is mighty

Oh, the mercy our God has shown
To those who sit in death's shadow
The sun on high pierced the night
Born was the Cornerstonnee

Unto us a Son is given, unto us a Child is born

He Who is mighty has done a great thing
Taken on flesh, conquered death's sting
Shattered the darkness and lifted our shame
Holy is His name

Oh, the freedom our Saviour won
The yoke of sin has been broken
Once a slave, now by grace
No more condemnation

Now my soul magnifies the Lord
I rejoice in the God Who saves
I will trust His unfailing love
I will sing His praises all my days

What child is this? - This, this is Christ the King

What Child is This? (door Third Day)
What Child is this who laid to rest
On Mary’s lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?

This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing;
Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

Nails and spear shall pierce Him through,
The cross be borne for me, for you.
Hail, hail the Word made flesh,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing;
Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh,
Come peasant, king to own Him;
The King of kings salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.

This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing;
Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

'Stricken, smitten and afflicted' (video en songtekst)

Stricken, smitten, and afflicted

Stricken, smitten, and afflicted,
See Him dying on the tree!
'Tis the Christ by man rejected;
Yes, my soul, 'tis He, 'tis He!
'Tis the long-expected prophet,
David's Son, yet David's Lord;
By His Son, God now has spoken
Tis the true and faithful Word.

Tell me, ye who hear him groaning,
Was there ever grief like his?
Friends thro' fear his cause disowning,
Foes insulting his distress;
Many hands were raised to wound him,
None would interpose to save;
But the deepest stroke that pierced him
Was the stroke that Justice gave.

Ye who think of sin but lightly,
Nor suppose the evil great
Here may view its nature rightly,
Here its guilt may estimate.
Mark the sacrifice appointed,
See who bears the awful load;
'tis the Word, the Lord's Anointed,
Son of Man and Son of God.

Here we have a firm foundation,
Here the refuge of the lost;
Christ's the Rock of our salvation,
His the name of which we boast.
Lamb of God, for sinners wounded,
Sacrifice to cancel guilt!
None shall ever be confounded
Who on him their hope have built.

Jesus Gave it All

Have you heard the story
Of how God so loved the world
That He gave to all of us His only Son?
Jesus grew into a man
He healed the sick, He loved the lonely
He gave God’s love away to everyone
Jesus gave it all

The people followed Him
They’d never seen that kind of love
He loved them all no matter
What they’d done
But not everyone was happy
Some of them were jealous
So they made plans to kill
God’s only Son
Jesus gave it all

One night while He was praying
Some soldiers came to find Him
They took Him to their rulers
Who didn’t know just what to do
They asked the people gathered
Just what they should do with Him
The crowd said, ‘Crucify Him!’
Though He’d done nothing wrong
Jesus gave it all

And the soldiers tried to break Him
The crowds they mocked and scorned
They led Him up a hill called Calvary
And they nailed Him to a cross
Still He asked God to forgive them
They didn’t understand
That it was all for you and me
Jesus gave it all

Then Jesus said, ‘It is finished!’
And He took his final breath
And the sky grew black as midnight
And the earth began to shake
The crowd began to tremble
They shook their heads in wonder
Then a soldier said, ‘I know
That this man was the Son of God.’
Jesus gave it all

And they took Him off the cross
They placed Him in a tomb
Then they rolled a large round stone
In the doorway of the cave
Some soldiers, they stood watching
Making sure no one could enter
Jesus’ friends were sad and hopeless
As they all went home that day
Jesus gave it all

On the morning of the third day
His mother Mary came to see Him
To make His body ready
For the grave where He would lay
But the tom bit was empty
An angel came to tell her
‘He’s not here! He has risen!
See, the stone’s been rolled away!’
Jesus gave it all
Jesus gave it all
Jesus gave it all

Deuteronomium 2, Psalmen 83-84, Jesaja 30, Judas

Be still, my soul! the Lord is on thy side;
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change, He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul! thy best, thy heav’nly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

In elke verandering zal Hij trouw blijven
Wees stil mijn ziel, uw beste, uw hemelse Vriend

(Beluister een fragment van het lied 'They Came Alone', tekst: D.A. Carson, muziek: Rob Smith)

They came alone: some women who remembered him,
Bowed down with spices to anoint his corpse.
Through darkened streets, they wept their way to honor him—
The one whose death had shattered all their hopes.

“Why do you look for life among the sepulchers?
He is not here. He’s risen, as he said.
Remember how he told you while in Galilee:
The Son of Man will die—and rise up from the dead.”

The two walked home, a study in defeat and loss,
Explaining to a stranger why the gloom—
How Jesus seemed to be the King before his cross,
How all their hopes lay buried in his tomb.

“How slow you are to see Christ’s glorious pilgrimage
Ran through the cross”—and then he broke the bread.
Their eyes were opened, and they grasped the Scripture’s truth:
The man who taught them had arisen from the dead.

He was a skeptic: not for him that easy faith
That swaps the truth for sentimental sigh.
Unless he saw the nail marks in his hands himself,
And touched his side, he’d not believe the lie.

Then Jesus came, although the doors were shut and locked.
“Repent of doubt, and reach into my side;
Trace out the wounds that nails left in my broken hands.
And understand that I who speak to you once died.”

Long years have passed, and still we face the fear of death,
Which steals our loved ones, leaving us undone,
And still confronts us, beckoning with icy breath,
The final terror when life’s course is run.

But this I know: the Savior passed this way before,
His body clothed in immortality.
The sting’s been drawn: the power of sin has been destroyed.
We sing: Death has been swallowed up in victory.

‘Bekeer je van je twijfel, en voel maar in mijn zijde;

What a Savior / Wat een Redder!

Man of Sorrows, what a name
For the Son of God who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim, hallelujah
Bearing shame and scoffing rude
In my place condemned He stood
Sealed my pardon with His blood
Hallelujah, hallelujah

Savior, You showed Your love
Defeated our sin, poured out Your blood
So we praise You, Lamb that was slain
We offer our lives to proclaim
What a Savior

Guilty, vile, and helpless we
Spotless Lamb of God was He
Full atonement, can it be? Hallelujah
Lifted up was He to die
“It is finished” was His cry
Now in heav’n exalted high
Hallelujah, hallelujah

When He comes, our glorious King
All His ransomed home to bring
Then anew this song we’ll sing
Hallelujah, hallelujah

Vol hoop en verwachting

The Church has waited long,
Her absent Lord to see,
And still in loneliness she waits,
A friendless stranger she.
Age after age has gone,
Sun after sun has set,
And still in weeds of widowhood,
She weeps a mourner yet.

Saint after saint on earth
Has lived, and loved, and died;
And as they left us one by one,
We laid them side by side;
We laid them down to sleep,
But not in hope forlorn;
We laid them but to ripen there,
Till the last glorious morn.

The serpent’s brood increase,
The powers of hell grow bold,
The conflict thickens, faith is low,
And love is waxing cold.
How long, O Lord our God,
Holy, and true, and good,
Wilt Thou not judge Thy suffering Church,
Her sighs, and tears, and blood?

We long to hear Thy voice,
To see Thee face to face,
To share Thy crown and glory then,
As now we share Thy grace.
Should not the loving bride
Her absent bridegroom mourn?
Should she not wear the signs of grief
Until her Lord return?

The whole creation groans,
And waits to hear that voice
That shall her comeliness restore,
And make her wastes rejoice.
Come, Lord, and wipe away
The curse, the sin, the stain,
And make this blighted world of ours
Thine own fair world again.

Mopper mopper mopper? Ten aanval!

MAKE WAR (Tedashii ft. Flame)

Intro (john piper):
I hear so many christians, murmuring about their imperfections, and their failures, and their addiction, and their shortcomings. And i see so little war! Murmur, murmur, murmur. Why am i this way? Make war!

Verse 1 (tedashii):
Bang with me
Ba-bang bang, ba-bang with me
No more playing games mane
Cause this thang can get risky
So mane if you in christ
Take up!!
Your cross quickly
Stand fearless on the frontline
Time to come with it
Do the right thing
Wake up!!
And lets get it
I ain't even in the ring
They throwing bows like riddick
Persistently attacking me
They're even in the back of me
It's either fight or loose my life and i can't take this passively
So what you think i'm bout to do
I'm bout to do what i can do
Trust the one who got me through
And fight like it was after school
Never giving up
Steady, standing on the battle field
Feet firm to the ground like i stepped on chappel hill
Flesh feeling frisky, sin persuades and tempts me
Satan cheers me on
Guilt followed by conviction
It's the same ol' trap
And we fall like we defenseless
Work your senses
Grow in wisdom
Stand firm and be relentless

Hook:
I make war!
Cause sin never sleeps
It's got me in a trance
You can see it in my dreams
I make war!
Man i beat my flesh
To the death
Every breath
Like i beat my chest
I make war
Sun up
I make war
Sun down
I make war
Time in
I make war
Time out
I make war
Against lust
Against pride
Against me
Until i die

Verse 2 (flame):
Do you even have a clue
What happened to you when he died
When that tomb got rolled when he rose in the sky
I think we emphasis sin so much
That it makes us paralyzed
And glorify struggle so much
That it makes us terrified
And deemphasize the fact that we have been sterilized from our own lives and thus
We gotta snap out of it
We aint in no straight-jacket
We free
When jesus died in our lives something strange happened
He gave us power
Yeah i know that we sinners but since he rose he's renewing the image of god in us
Now, we gotta start making war
Now we can start saying no
To them fleshy impulses that jesus christ is paying for
Now we can start taking the lead
Just like the dalai lama and start going all out like a suicide bomber
Whatever the sin is we gotta go go go harder
By his grace no time to waste and just just just like there's no tomorrow

Hook

Verse 3 (tedashii):
I'm a christ representer, fin to stand and deliver
Cause a lot of my believers struggle with their agenda
So i dropped this on an adat
Just so you could come play back
A hit to be encouraged that rocks you with truth from, way back
So listen up to it asap
Like you do a lecrae track
I'm spittin' written visions to put on heads like a wave cap
Sinning, nawl we don't play that
Cause that's the way that a slave acts
I'm filled with the spirit so tell them dog this is pay back
As you begin to copy the carbon copies of christ
And conform to his written image you should be shinning a light
If you not, why is that?
Is it fear that's been grippin' you
Cause you scared they'll be dissin' you
Flipping birds while that spit at you
If you not, why is that?
It don't matter so bump it
Perfect love cast out fear and he ain't save us for nothing
This is a privilege (privilege)
Your life to give to him (give to him)
So stand firm for him dawg and lets get it in

"At first glance Martyn Joseph is (just) another gifted singer songwriter. First impressions are there to mislead of course: Joseph's ambition is broader than entertainment, deeper than commerce. Some musicians want to move your feet, some just want to move you: Martyn Joseph wants to move heaven and earth."
(...)
"The consistency is the voice the place where he stands, from where he chooses to look at life. This is music that articulates a yearning for another world that is yet to be born, songs of sorrow acquainted with grief but, nevertheless, melodies carried in sunlight, thunder and rainbows from the same sky."

He Never Said

He never said God helps those who help themselves
He never said Blessed are the rich
He never said Do unto others before they do it unto you
He never said Its too bad buddy the winner has to take it all
He never said success is the key
You gotta be cruel to be kind
And he never said it’s a jungle out there
Where the weak must get left behind

He Said..
Answer a strangers cry for help
Love your brother as you loved yourself
You only have to seek and you will find
Forgive your enemies drop that grudge
Don’t judge others and you won’t be judged
Only knock and the door will open wide, open wide

He never said Archbishops should stick to theology
He never said put your faith in the lottery
He never said by any means necessary
He never said my country right or wrong
He never said send your money to me
Touch the screen and your gonna be healed
He never said every man's got a price
Do you want to make a deal?

Answer a strangers cry for help
Love your brother as you loved yourself
You only have to seek and you will find
Forgive your enemies drop that grudge
Don’t judge others and you won’t be judged
Only knock and the door will open wide, open wide

And on that day a day that's coming
Who’s gonna be walking who’s gonna be running
The first will be the last and the last will come first
If the meek inherit the earth

Answer a strangers cry for help
Love your brother as you loved yourself … etc

Getuigenis rapper Lecrae en video's Rehab

[Intro/Chorus]
We are the children of the light
Royal rulers of the day
Takes no prisoners of the night
Cause we're the love we lead the way

[Verse 1: Lecrae]
Yeah, I notice when people notice me
My exterior's the only way they know it's me
I'm full of holes and scars, my skins marked up
But qualified to light up a world of darkness.
I get a walk, a little walk in the sunlight
I look dirty but I'll be clean on the inside.
It's revolutionaries comin' out for fellas
And they can look at us strange
But there ain't nothin' that they can tell us cuz!

[Chorus]
We are the children of the light
Royal rulers of the day
Takes no prisoners of the night
Cause we're the love we lead the way

[Verse 2: Sonny]
Yeah, freedom rock this mic
To walk right, in a dark night lighted by the sun!
I'm so free that I can fly, while y'all can't even crawl,
It's your fall to freedom!

In my life I count the cards, I take loss accuse the treason,
And I can die for this cause, and you might just be the reason.
And in order to (if I must dial) denial itself,
And if you claim to be the way that means there ain't no one else.
I trust it (done) there ain't no room for discussion,
So if you just don't get it,
Then let the just come with it!
I know much more is required of all that I've been given,
But if y'all claim to be alive,
Then you gotta start livin', you know why!

[Chorus]
We are the children of the light
Royal rulers of the day
Takes no prisoners of the night
Cause we're the love we lead the way

[Verse 3: Dillavou]
(JAH!)
Yo, am I the only one, to take me out to babylon,
An' him create the right an' wrong,
An' him create the scriptin' sound,
And that's why we stand firm upon the rock of the salvation man.
And truly love the prospect, an' we hope to put out helmets on,
And that is why we build upon for each and every chosen one,
[???]

(J-Paul)
I just wanna be like you,
Walk like, talk like, even think like you
The only one I could look to
You're teaching me to be just like you
Well I just gotta be like,
I just gotta be like you

(Verse 1- Lecrae)
Yeah, Uncle Chris, Uncle Keith, Uncle Ricky,
Before the Lord get me I gotta say something quickly
I grew up empty since my daddy wasn't with me shoot,
I wasn't picky I'd take any male figure
You
stepped in at the right time,
It's 'cuz of you that I write rhymes
You probably never knew that
I loved the way you used to come through come through,
Teach me to do the things that men do
True,
You showed me stuff I probably shouldn't have seen,
But you rebelled and made it out your teens,
and took me under your wings
I wanted hats, I wanted clothes just like you,
Lean to the side when I rolled just like you
And care people didn't like you,
You wanna bang, I wanna bang too
Skyline,pyru
You would've died, I would've died too,
You went to prison, got sick, lost your pops,
Yeah,I cried too
You never know who's right behind you,
Gotta a little son now and he do whatever I do
But it's something deep inside you,
That tell it's gotta be more than doing what other guys do,
They had nobody there to guide you
But I followed your footsteps and this shouldn't surprise you,
You realize you, you, you
Yeah,

(Chorus)
I just wanna be like you,
Walk like, talk like, even think like you
The only one I could look to,
You're teaching me to be just like you
Well I just gotta be like,
I just gotta be like you

(Verse 2)
Now all I see is money, cars, jewels,
Stars
Womanizers, tough guys, guns, knives, and scars,
Drug pushers, thugs, strippers, fast girls, fast life
Everything I wanted and everything I could ask life
If this ain't living and they lied well,
guess I married an old wives' tale
Wow, fail
I don't know another way to go,
This is the only way they ever showed
I got this emptiness inside that got me fighting for approval because I missed out on my daddy saying, way to go,
And get that verbal affirmation on know how to treat a woman,
Know how to fix an engine,
That keep the car running
So now I'm looking at the media and following what they feed me,
Rap stars, trap stars,
Whoever wants to lead me
Even though they lie they still tell me that they love me,
They say I'm good at bad things at least they proud of me

(Chorus)
I just wanna be like you,
Walk like, talk like, even think like you
The only one I could look to
You're teaching me to be just like you
Well I just gotta be like,
I just gotta be like you
(Like you)

(Verse 3)
I was created by God but I ain't wanna be like Him,
I wanna be Him
The Jack Sparrow of my Caribbean
I remember the first created being,
And how he shifted the blame on his dame
On fruit he should't have eaten
And now look at us all out of Eden,
And now look at us all that are eating,
Wearing designer fig leaves by Louis Vuitton
Make believe it
But God sees through my foolish pride,
And I'm weak life Adam another victim of Lucifer's foolish lies
But then in steps Jesus,
All men were created to lead but we need somebody to lead us
More than a teacher,
But somebody who buy us back from the darkness,
Say He redeemed us,
Taught us that real leaders follow God,
Finish the work 'cuz we on our job
Taught us not to rob
But give life love a wife like He loved the Church,
Not seeing how many hearts we can break first
I wanna be like you in every way,
So if I gotta die everyday
Unworthy sacrifice
But the least I can do is give the most to me
Because being just like you is what I'm 'spose to be
You said you came for the lame,
I'm the lamest
I made a mess you say you'll erase it,
I'll take it
You said you came for the lame,
I'm the lamest
I broke my life, but you say you'll replace it,
I'll take it.

(I just gotta be like,....)

Lord Jesus, Comfort Me

Lord Jesus, Comfort Me (A Communion Hymn)

You have canceled my transgression,
Jesus, by Your precious blood
May I find therein salvation,
happiness, and peace with God
And since You for sinner's suffering
On the cross was made an offering
From all sin deliver me,
That I wholly Yours may be

All the pain You have endured
All Your wounds, Your crown of thorn
Hands and feet with nails through bored
The reproach which You have borne
Your back, ploughed with deep furrows
Cross and grave and all Your sorrows
Your blood-sweat and agony
Oh Lord Jesus, comfort me

Your back, ploughed with deep furrows
Cross and grave and all Your sorrows
Your blood-sweat and agony
Oh Lord Jesus, comfort me

Dana Key is bij de Heer

Jeugdsentiment ...

THE OUTLAW

Some say He was an outlaw
That He roamed across the land
With a band of unscholled ruffians
And a few old fishermen
No one knew just where He came rom
Or exactly what He'd done
But they said it must be something bad
That kept Him on the run

Said He was an outlaw

Some say He was a poet
That He'd stand on a hill
And His voice could calm a angry crowd
And make the waves stand still
That He spoke in many parables
That few could understand
But the people could sar for hours
Just to listen to this man

They said He was an outlaw

Some say He was a sorcerer
A man of mystery
He would walk upon the water
He could make a blind man see
That He conjured wine at weddings
And did tricks with fish and bread
That He talked of being born again
And raised people from the dead
They say He was an outlaw

Some say a politician
Who spoke of being free
He was followed by the masses
On the shores of Galilee
He spoke out against corruption
And He bowed to no decree
And they feared His strenght and power
So they nailed Him to a tree

Said He was an outlaw

Some say He was the Son of God
A man above all men
But He came to be a servant
And to set us free from sin
And that's who I believe He was
Cause that's who I believe
And I think we should get ready
Cause it's time for us to leave

(Tomorrow, 1981)

KNIELEN

'Aanraken is genezen, kwetsen is stelen

(I still haven't found what I'm looking for, 1987)

The prodigal / verloren zoon

You held out Your arms, I walked away
Insolent I spurned Your face
Squandering the gifts You gave to me
Holding close forbidden things
Destitute a rebel still, a fool in all my pride
The world I once enjoyed is death to me
No joy, no hope, no life

Where now are the friends, that I had bought
Gone with every penny lost
What hope could there be for such as I
Sold out to a world of lies
Oh, to see Your face again, it seems so distant now
Could it be that You would take me back
A servant in Your house

You held out Your arms, I see them still
You never left, You never will
Running to embrace me, now I know
Your cords of love will always hold
Mercy’s robe, a ring of grace
Such favor undeserved
You sing over me and celebrate
The rebel now Your child

Eerst in Christus' verzoenende sterven, daarna in Zijn glorieuze opstanding.
